Description
Cateye Jido Front Light
Cateye's latest battery light innovation borrows the beneficial features of a good quality dynamo light, but without the hassle and performance issues associated with having a dynamo mechanism rubbing on your wheel.
The Jido gives you two options for operation. You can manually turn it on and off in the normal way by pressing the button, or for a high-tech approach you can set it to switch itself on whenever darkness and motion are detected at the same time. In other words, if it's dark and you start riding the light comes on, and just like a decent dynamo light the Jido stays on for 40 seconds after you stop moving to keep you safe at junctions.
We're not sure whether the auto option is better than simply pressing the on/off switch, but since you have the choice to operate this light either manually or automatically it's definitely a nice gimmik and an interesting technological advance that could lead to very eco-friendly future developments.
Fancy elctronic innovation aside, the HL-AU230 Jido front light performs very nicely as a bright, powerful battery light, having no less than 5 bright white LEDs to make you very visible in heavy traffic and the nice inclusion of a low battery indicator.
Don't know what the word Jido means either, but it totally sounds like Sumo, Judo, Dojo or some similar martial arts type word, which fits well since it is a solid, reliable, bright, Japanese front cycle light, designed for safety and self defence - intelligent and innovative yet packing and old-skool powerful punch - Jo-Dan! Wax on, wax off, etc.
