Replaceable brake-pads are the way to go, if you actually use your bike! They make brake-block replacement a lot easier as just the rubber inserts need sliding in and out, there is no time spent fiddling with adjustment bolts or risk of getting finely-fettled brakes adjusted wrong.

Instructions are provided, thin-nose pliers the only tool needed. You will also need to clean your wheel rims of dirt when refurbishing the brakes.
 

Top tip: Stock up on replaceable inserts and keep them with your bike maintenance kit.
