Cycling mirrors are a very useful safety aid when riding in heavy traffic, enabling the rider to see cars coming from behind and to help judge when it is safe to pull out or turn into a road. Sometimes when a rider looks suddenly over their shoulder it can cause the bike to swerve in the direction that they are looking which is normally out towards the traffic.
