Shoes & Overshoes
No matter what sort of bicycle or pedal system they are designed to work with, once clipped in to a pedal bicycle shoes can probably give the biggest increase in performance compared to any other part of the bike. By wearing a pair of shoes with a stiffened sole and cleat that attaches into a pedal, the rider can use the whole pedal stroke both pulling and pushing which hugely increases the amount of power the rider can apply. Although shoes vary in design and materials between road, MTB and leisure shoes they can all provide a proportional performance increase.

All manufacturers make their shoes to slightly different measurements even if advertised as the same size. It is very important to fit the shoes correctly as they need to be snug (not tight) but with your toes as close to the end of the shoe without touching. This allows the balls of your foot to be positioned over the pedal axel for ultimate performance.
