Skin Suits - One-Piece
When every second counts against the clock, all areas of the bike and the rider must be looked at to achieve the most aerodynamic advantage possible. A big contributing factor to the aerodynamics is the clothing that the rider wears. While lycra shorts are skin tight, many cycling jerseys tend to be baggier and so can flap in the wind creating drag. To overcome this problem clothing manufacturers have designed and produced all in one skin suits where a lycra top half is stitched onto the shorts.
Correctly Sized Suits
A correctly sized and fitted skin suit can create a completely skin tight layer of clothing which cuts down the drag to an absolute minimum. Skin suits feature all the detail found in a pair of cycling shorts, with padded chamois inserts and using wicking lycra materials. They can come in short or long sleeve, mostly with no rear pockets, although some suits designed for longer distance time trials can have a small pocket on the back to take an energy gel.
Aerodynamic Clothing
Although their main use is in time trialling, many riders also use the suits in races that are short enough not to require taking any food. These can include criterium races, track races, and many riders wear skin suits in cyclo cross as they minimise the danger of clothing getting caught when hopping on and off the bike. We stock skin suits from manufacturers such as Nalini, Assos and Nike.
