A worn chain wears sprockets and chainsets quicker than a chain that is not worn. Consequently it is best to not let the chain get too 'stretched'. The CC-3 tool is designed to accurately indicate when a chain reaches 0.75% or 1% wear - that is the point at which most chain manufacturers suggest replacement.
