Track Wheel Hubs
Track Hubs are designed to be very stiff to cope with the incredible forces that can be produced by sprinters during events such as the Keirin, as well as the huge wattages that riders create when exploding from the starting gates. This is probably the most force any cycling component has to withstand. To get this strength most hubs will have different dimensions to road hubs, with larger and stiffer flanges and left hand threads to carry the single fixed sprocket on the rear wheel.
Attaching Sprockets for Rapid Gear Change
Some hubs will have thread on both sides so that different size spockets can be attached to the wheel for a quick gear change in between events. Instead of having to struggle with a chain whip when removing sprockets, the wheel simply has to be turned around.
