Carbon is being used more and more by manufacturers in the production of seat posts for both road and MTB use. With better materials carbon posts can be made a lot lighter than alloy posts without sacrificing strength. The dampening properties also mean that by adding a carbon post to an alloy frame for example, can give the rider a slightly more comfortable ride. The positive performance aspects go hand in hand with the aesthetic qualities of carbon as there is no denying that by adding a carbon post to a bike will give it a more expensive look. This belies the fact that a carbon post can now be purchased at nearly all price points and doesn’t necessarily have to cost more than a top of the range aluminium post.
