Inner Tubes

Tyre Inner Tubes
The standard tyres found on most bikes these days are know as clinchers. They have a wire bead around the edge which hooks onto a lip on the rim on the wheel. (refer to the buyers guide) To inflate the tyre and hold it in place, a separate inner tube is used which can be easily replaced when punctures occur. We stock a vast range of different sized inner tubes to fit the varying sizes of tyre. Before ordering an inner tube, be sure to check for the correct size which is normally written on the side of the tyre. For example 26x 2.1 or for a road tyre 700 x 23c.

Inner Tube Measurements
Most tubes fit a range of sizes and will point this out on the packaging. For example 26x1.5/2.2, means that the tube will work with any 26" tyre with a width between 1.5" and 2.2". Just to confuse the rider, most MTB tyres are measured in imperial measurements with most road tyre measurements in metric. If you are in any doubt, please refer to the side of the tyre or contact us. It is also vitally important to get right type of valve as there two to choose from. Schrader valves are the same as your car valve and can be found on most MTB bikes and Presta valves involve unscrewing the valve before inflating. Most rims are valve specific so make sure that you know which valve the tube you are replacing has.
