Haibike are a manufacturer of electric bikes. Since their founding in 1995 they have developed new models and advanced their bicycles from both visual and technical perspectives.

Drawing upon experience from their parent company WinoraGroup and with over 20 years of experience developing eBikes as Haibike, they have very quickly become one of the biggest names in the entire electric bikes industry.

So Who Are Electric Bikes For?

There are many different reasons why you may consider riding a bicycle or an electric bicycle, including but not limited to:

  • Health Reasons
Cycling on an electric bike is a fantastic choice for those who want to improve their fitness. Whilst at first you may be unsure if an electric bike will provide the same or similar health benefits to ‘analogue cycling’, there is actually a case to be made that electric biking can in some cases be more beneficial than cycling on an analogue bicycle.

The reason for electric bikes being better than analogue bicycles in some cases is due to exercise itself. After all, in order to gain the benefits of exercise, you need to exercise frequently. It’s not sufficient to simply cycle once, but not everyone has the physical health, fitness ability or the willpower to commit to a strict workout regime; however the pedal assist motor in the electric bike will provide you with a helping hand, making the workout less exhausting. Whilst at first a less demanding ride does mean less exercise, the easier ride could make you more likely to cycle more often, thus in the long term cycle more than you would have done with a bicycle without an electric pedal assist motor.

Indeed, according to information found on Bicycling.com “when 20 non-exercising men and women e-biked about 40 minutes three days a week, they improved their cardiovascular fitness and blood sugar in just one month”. So if you’re struggling to find the motivation to cycle on a regular basis, perhaps an eBike from a well known and trustworthy brand such as Haibike is the ideal step forward.

  • Commuting To Work
If an electric bike is road legal, it can be cycled on roads and cycle paths; essentially anywhere a “normal bicycle” is allowed. This means that it’s a method of transportation that doesn’t require a license, doesn’t require registration, and don’t require vehicle tax; in addition to not needing petrol/diesel. As such, it’s a very attractive option for those looking to find a cost-effective commuting transport.

However, it isn’t just about the cost benefits, there is also a many advantages to be had with regards to your mental health at work. For example, exercising before work causes your body to release chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine into your system. These chemicals are stress-battling chemicals which means that those who suffer from low mood or workplace stress could find heaps of advantages in their day-to-day lives at work by cycling to work on an electric bike.

That being said, what is a road legal electric bike? Well, according to Transport For London as an electric bike is just “a standard pedal cycle fitted with a battery and electric motor” , in order to be classified as a road-legal eBike, it must have its speed restricted to 25km/h (15.5 mph) and the power cannot exceed 250 watts.

  • Leisure Activities
Cycling on an electric bike is a great choice for those searching for a bike for leisure activities. After all eBikes aren’t just for cycling on the road as you commute to work, there are also many great electric bikes designed for off-road and extream use. For example, the Xduro range of extreme eBikes from Haibike has many amazing downhill models and fat bikes to choose from.

  • Recovering From An Injury
Electric bikes are the ideal fitness choice for those who are recovering from an injury or suffering from a condition such as arthritis. Electric cycling is a form of low-impact exercise; this means that less strain is placed on your joints when compared to forms of high-impact exercise such as playing football, running, or playing a game of tennis.

However, information found on treated.com tells us that “low impact exercise can be just as beneficial to heart health as high impact activities.” So if you’re looking for a way to keep fit that’s less stressful on an existing injury or health condition, or if you’re looking to ease your way into a weight loss journey; perhaps cycling on an eBike is the choice for you.
