Disc Brakes A huge step forward in MTB design has been the development
of disc brakes. Discs are attached to the wheel surrounding the hub and
the brakes apply stopping power through specific pads to this disc,
rather than the rim, to stop the bike. This allows for increased
performance and means that the brakes won’t get clogged up with mud.
Different Brake Systems Available in two forms, the less expensive
version works with a cable pull to close the pads, while the most common
and effective hydraulic brakes use a special brake fluid; not
dissimilar to the systems used in cars. These are very powerful and easy
to maintain. For all the latest in disc brake stopping power have a
good look through this section or refer to our buyers guide for further
advice.
