Chains

Chains
Chains are very much specific to the number of gears that are run on the bike, so when choosing a new chain make sure you check that it will fit. A 10 or 11 speed cassette, for instance, needs a narrower chain than a 9 speed one.

Suiting Your Budget
Generally speaking a higher price means reduced weight or greater durability or both. Materials such as titanium are often used in the most expensive chains, however, an inexpensive chain looked after properly will still have a decent life span. Other specifications to look out for are the different quick link systems that have been developed. Instead of a fiddly pin to secure the chain, special complete links are used, such as the SRAM powerlink or Connex quick link. This allows the chain to be attached and removed without using a chain tool.
