MTB Shifters

MTB Shifters
These are gear shifters for mountain bikes which are sold separately from the brake levers (for integrated link to MTB STI). These come in many different types and are specific to manufacturers and the amount of gears that the groupset on the bike operates (normally 7 speed, 8 speed or 9 speed).

Operating Methods
There are many different operating methods to how the rider changes gear. Grip shift, normally on lower end bikes, are where you simply turn the grip like a motor bike. Rapid fire uses two levers operated by the thumb and index finger to change gear, much like pulling the trigger on a gun. Many also come with an optical display to show you which gear you are in. This can be very useful when climbing a steep hill, often to the rider’s relief they can see that they still have an easier gear to use!
